45 Silver
Street, Dover, New Hampshire
A Major Place in Dover's History
The
house was also the home of Captain Benjamin Oliver Reynolds and
his wife Martha from 1871 to approximately 1891. Captain Reynolds
commanded the "Jonathan Sawyer" built in Bath, Maine
for the Dover Navigation Company.
At
one point, the house was split up into a duplex, and a large addition
was added to the rear making the total square footage of the building
approximately 3,600 square feet.
It
was at that time, we've been told, that a resident of the duplex,
name unknown, died in the house. His body was not discovered for
several days. It is he, we believe, that still resides in the
building as our resident ghost. We were also told of his ghostly
activities, and really didn't have to occupy the building all
that long before several of us heard or felt him ourselves. He
is friendly, and likes to slam doors and walk up and down one
of the three staircases in the building. Between the many workers
that helped us renovate the building, and our staff and agents,
we have already had a few ghostly encounters that were just unexplainable.
The house has a very warm, friendly feeling to it, so none of
us are really bothered by him. But, we know he is there!
When
prior owners Robert & Leda Keefe (1960s - 1970s) had to remodel
the kitchen due to a fire, one of the workers broke a power saw
blade cutting through a beam in the kitchen. Turns out his saw
blade hit an Indian arrowhead, which, according to Leda, had been
shot into the tree, and the tree grew around it, later being cut
into beams. The arrowhead, we were told, is still here, but so
far we have been unable to find it.
